Project Description
Dr. Jennifer Mesrie
I am a board-certified psychiatrist providing medication management as well as psychotherapy both in person and online via telehealth. In addition to my private practice, I work as an attending psychiatrist in various emergency rooms throughout New York City. I have a background in the creative and performing arts and highly value the role of creativity, movement and expression in improving mental health. I also hold a certificate in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy and Research from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS).
In my practice, I work with individuals ranging from late adolescence through late adulthood. I treat a range of conditions including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, OCD, and substance use issues among others. I work a lot with corporate creatives and others in high power jobs and the particular challenges they face. Other areas of focus include life and identity transitions, existential issues, as well as problems in relationships.
If you are already in therapy, I can serve as a third member of your treatment team and evaluate if medication can help support your growth. I take a collaborative approach by working closely with your therapist to ensure that you are making the best progress possible.
While medication can have an important role in recovery, I believe that lasting change takes place through psychotherapy. My humanistic approach is influenced by multiple modalities including psychodynamic, existential, and relational. During treatment we will refine your understanding of your life narrative, your family relationships, build on your strengths, and develop your sense of creativity. We will work towards reconciling all the different parts of yourself. We may do work with mindfulness and examine your lifestyle choices. From the start we will be cultivating our relationship which will form the basis of all of the work we do together.
In addition to the above, I offer psychiatric consultations for second opinions, for patients referred by physicians or other providers, forensic evaluations such as capacity/guardianship, and other types of expert services.
