Project Description

Inna Dukach

Working with clients is an evolving collaboration, fulfilling the profound and universal desire to be known and accepted. I view effective therapy not as a panacea, but as a ladder into the unknown: helping clients through obstacles towards specific goals, deeper into the self, outward toward another, and through challenging life transitions.

My therapeutic orientation combines Psychodynamic, Relational, and Cognitive Behavioral therapy techniques. I take a holistic, interpersonal approach in addressing your concerns: we explore the past, we use the in-the-moment experience of the therapeutic relationship to explore broader relational patterns, and we take action-oriented steps where we identify harmful thoughts or behavior patterns and use specific tools to manage obstacles.

For the past twenty years, I have worked and traveled internationally as a professional opera singer. My training and experience in the arts have given me a deep insight into the particular challenges of performing artists. I understand that performing and creating takes courage to embark upon and courage to be continually vulnerable in the face of constant rejection. My unique understanding is helpful to others struggling to find themselves as artists and as people.

Born in Russia and raised in New York, I received my BA in Psychology from Smith College, MA in Vocal Performance from Mannes College of Music, and MA Mental Health Counseling from The City College of New York. I completed my internship at the Institute for Human Identity, where I received extensive training and experience in working with a variety of gender identities and sexualities, and in working with people in various life transitions, particularly with young adults and issues surrounding identity formation. My experience as an immigrant continues to inform my practice in understanding how culture shapes our beliefs about the self and our sense of belonging in the greater world.

I would be happy to answer any of your questions, contact me below and we can schedule a 15 minute phone consultation. You can also visit my website at dukachtherapy.com.
